A mathematical model of multicomponent mass transfer in electrodialysis

چکیده
A mathematical model has been developed which describes the mass transfer across monovalent-ionpermselective membranes as used in an electrodialysis cell. The mass transfer model is based on the StefanMaxwell transport equations. The latters are derived in the membrane phase with two unstirred layers on each side. Donnan equilibrium is used to describe the concentration and the potential discontinuity on the membrane-solution interface by means of sorption measurements. The combination of the mass transfer model and the equilibrium model enables the prediction of concentration and potential profiles across the electrodialysis stack once the model parameters are available which are obtained from literature, separate experiments or existing correlations.

This paper deals with the extraction of L-Theanine containing Aliquat 336 as a carrier and cyclohexane as solvent across bulk liquid membrane. The optimum operation condition are as follows: extraction time of 150 min, initial concentration of theanine in the feed phase is 1.8 g/L, the carrier concentration is 0.5 M, the ion of the receiving phas...
متن کاملOn the generalized mass transfer with a chemical reaction: Fractional derivative model
In this article using the inverse Laplace transform, we show analytical solutions for the generalized mass transfers with (and without) a chemical reaction. These transfers have been expressed as the Couette flow with the fractional derivative of the Caputo sense. Also, using the Hankel contour for the Bromwich's integral, the solutions are given in terms of the generalized Airy functions.
متن کاملSimulation of Stresses Induced by Heat and Mass Transfer in Drying Process of Clay-like Material
Drying represents one of the oldest unit operations employed in industrial processes. Drying is viewed as a process of simultaneous heat and mass transfer. Porous Clay-like material undergoes stresses due to non-uniform distribution of temperature and moisture induced by heat and mass transfer respectively. The aim of this work is to simulate the stresses induced by heat and mass transfer durin...

The mass transfer performance of a pulsed disc and doughnut column for extraction of samarium and gadolinium from aqueous nitrate solution with D2EHPA was investigated. The effects of operating parameters such as pulsation intensity, continuous and dispersed phase velocities on column performance were investigated. The axial dispersion model was used to obtain the overall mass transfer coef...
